Chair of the Environment and Health committee
Ruth cares about the health of her community and the health of the environment that intertwines with that community. As Chair of the Environment and Health Committee, Ruth recently supported a local law amendment that all pesticide markers now must be written in English, Spanish and any other language required by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. This law will lead to the protection of people and the environment from harmful chemicals that might not otherwise be noted. Ruth also added $200,000 to the 2021 budget to clean the Sprain Brook channel and prevent chronic flooding in District 15 as a climate resilient measure.
Vice-Chair of the Parks and Recreation Commitee
As a lover of the outdoors, Ruth has taken her role as the Vice-Chair of the Parks and Recreation Committee as an opportunity to support the improvement of our parks and attend various park cleanups. She has also helped add $1 million dollars to the 2021 Capital Budget to go towards the construction of Senior Fitness Parks throughout the county. As this time in isolation has taught us all, having sustainable outdoor spaces is important to the health and wellbeing of every person. The construction of these parks will provide a way for seniors to exercise and socialize outside in a safe way.
